Continuous innovation to offer world’s most secure and reliable ePassports

With an ever-increasing number of people crossing national borders each day, security of travel documents has become a central concern for all States. In recent years, passports have evolved from simple paper booklets to high-tech documents, integrating technologies such as RFID and biometrics as well as other leading edge techniques to prevent document forgeries. Ultimately, governments and border control officials need the ability to quickly and reliably perform identity checks on all passengers.

Focusing on this need to improve identity control for people travelling through a country, Zetes has developed a range of solutions covering the entire passport personalisation chain whilst ensuring top quality processes and documents. The company continuously invests and innovates in order to ensure the personalisation and delivery of documents responds to the highest security requirements.

To date, Zetes produces some of the most secured and advanced documents in the world:

  • Belgian biometric e-passport: by tackling the most common element subject to forgery on a passport, the Belgian authorities adopted an approach by which the photography is repeated up to five times using different techniques within the document. This makes it virtually impossible for forgers to counterfeit the document.
  • Ivorian biometric e-passport : when released in 2008, this was one of the most advanced documents of its kind. To date, it remains among the best-protected passports worldwide.
  • Gambian biometric e-passport : Zetes achieved a world first by integrating the image of irises directly onto a passport’s RFID chip as an alternative to fingerprints when the latter are missing.

In order to ensure optimal interoperability and customer service, Zetes also offers a solution for automatic border control, either by allowing the comparison of a traveller’s biometric information with the information contained in its e-passport, or by communicating with a secured central database containing the traveller’s biographic and biometric information.
