Brussels (Belgium), 30 June 2026 – Zetes announces its involvement in the Belgian government's digital wallet (MyGov.be app). The Belgian government recently announced a plan to simplify the qualified electronic signature process. On behalf of the Belgian government, Zetes will issue digital certificates solely for electronic signing and will provide and host the environment for creating electronic signatures. Within the digital wallet framework, signing will become a service offered by the Belgian government to all its citizens. This service will be based on a qualified electronic signature generated using infrastructure and certificates hosted by Zetes and meeting the highest security standards for electronic signatures.
The MyGov.be app will transition to the EU Digital Identity Wallet, a secure, interoperable solution that will allow EU citizens to manage and use their digital identity across borders. It can be used to store and access official attestations such as driving licences, health records, and diplomas, facilitating access to public and private services. In line with the EU's digital transformation strategy, the wallet guarantees data confidentiality and security while giving people control over their personal information. The EU Digital Identity Wallet will also allow qualified signing using services provided by Zetes.
Accelerating secure access to official attestations
Zetes has already been in charge of issuing eID cards (since 2002), passports (since 2008), driving licences (since 2013), and digital certificates as a Qualified Trust Service Provider (since 2017). Now, with the digital wallet project, Zetes continues its commitment to serving the Belgian government.
This project is part of a national strategy that aims to improve the accessibility and security of digital services whilst meeting the growing expectations regarding digital trust. Zetes has also been supplying digital certificates to Estonian citizens since late 2025. Digital identity is now a priority for many governments worldwide, not just in Europe. Zetes anticipated this trend by investing in the development of mobile ID a few years ago, with a view to meeting the growing need for secure, accessible digital ID solutions.
Fundamental human rights and data protection
“Zetes highlights the importance of a reliable legal database, such as the national register, as the basis for digital identity. It advocates an approach that ensures citizens have full control over their personal data, in accordance with the principles of sovereignty, transparency, and privacy. Because trust is central to a digital identity system, we are proud to contribute our expertise at this new stage in the digitalisation of public services. The digital wallet represents tangible progress towards controlled, secure access to official attestations for every citizen,” says Bart Crols, President of the People ID Business line at Zetes.
